SciGirls at Zoo Miami

During summer 2023, SciGirls, in partnership with Everglades National Park, and Zoo Miami Foundation will teach and mentor 7th and 8th grade girls in STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics). More specifically, the young scientists will learn about the hidden biodiversity of wildlife in Everglades National Park!

SciGirls is an Emmy award-winning PBS Kids television show, website, and educational outreach program that draws on cutting-edge research about what engages girls in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) learning and careers.

SciGirls in the National Parks will take place in 16 national parks, one of which is Everglades National Park. The program highlights citizen science experiences for girls that will broaden their STEM participation, build positive STEM identity, and increase understanding of scientific concepts, while exploring the wonder and scientific adventures occurring at national parks. Participating girls will explore various citizen science projects in their nearby park, learn how projects contribute to STEM fields, and participate in an ongoing citizen science project with their teammates.

This program is free and will run for about a week. Students will meet at Zoo Miami and Everglades National Park. Transportation to and from Zoo Miami and parks will be provided. Students will be working both in a lab setting and exploring the outdoors at Zoo Miami and Everglades National Park.

An orientation meeting will be held over Zoom on Tuesday, May 30th at 7:00pm if selected.
